SCSD-SD, study visit in Bologna

The Turkish "Environmental Energy Association" made a study visit to Bologna, with Kyoto Club, from 25 to 30 November. The aim was the study of the good practices of organizations, companies, and entities visited and the strengthening of cooperation and dialogue in the environmental field between Italian and Turkish civil society.

From 25 to 30 November 2019, the Turkish Environmental Energy Association (Çevreci Enerji Derneği), together with Kyoto Club, visited Bologna to meet the main environmental organizations and representatives of the City Municipality.

The study visit saw the participation of the Turkish Association in different workshops, in meetings and debates with representatives of organizations and public bodies.

The initiative took place in the context of the Sustainable Civil Society Dialogue for Sustainable Development (SCSD-SD), a project that has as its partner Kyoto Club and the Environmental Energy Association, co-financed by the European Union (EU) within the Civil Society Dialogue program.

On Tuesday, November 26, the study visit began at 10 am at the Hera Group waste separator, with a detailed tour of the plant, during which the staff explained the management of each single step of the waste separation. In the afternoon, was organized a tour in FICO, in which the participants had the opportunity to meet many of the organizations that can be found within the food park.

On Wednesday 27 November two information sessions were held on the international and environmental activities of the Municipality of Bologna. Two sessions were held: – the first one, with the International Relations Office, on the involvement of the Municipality in the Eurocity network. The second one was held by the Sustainability Office: the member of the Office illustrated the general structure of the municipal departments and offices, and presented their activities, emphasizing cooperation with the other departments. The representatives of the office then explained the LIFE Blue Ap project, which led to the Bologna climate adaptation plan and to the further phases that took place after the end of the project. The day continued with a visit to the FIU – Urban Innovation Foundation, a non-profit organization that coordinates the associations of local civil society operating in the Bologna area. The representatives of the Foundation introduced the structure and activities of the FIU, highlighting the interaction with the associations of local citizens. Finally, in the afternoon the group visited Second Life, the area for the reuse of materials from the Municipality of Bologna.

On the morning of Thursday 28 November, two further information sessions were held at the offices of the Municipality of Bologna, the first in which the Environment Department explained the management and planning of public green spaces, with particular attention on adaptation and climate resilience. The second session was held by the managers of the Office for Sustainable Mobility, who shared a presentation on Bologna's sustainable mobility policies. They also focused on the so-called PUMS – Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans – conducted by the municipality and which are of great interest for the pre-accession process. After lunch, two visits took place: the Golinelli Foundation where the staff illustrated the Foundation's scope – also how the bases are defined in the oom), an exhibition and information center dedicated to schools, citizens and interested parties. All the people met during the study visit decided to join the SCSD-SD working group, starting by sharing the best practices illustrated in these days, which in the coming months will build a dedicated online platform.
