Italy-Turkey, monitoring report of the SCSD-SD project

The report presents an analysis of the acquis communautaire on the subject of the environment, climate and energy, while the second part illustrates the progress made by Turkey in harmonizing its environmental regulatory framework with that of the European Union.

2 October 2019

Energy efficiency, renewables, circular economy, water protection and biodiversity: these are some of the sectors that the European Union regulatory provisions regulate, in the context of the broader environmental legislation.

The Union has an active role, often much more than national states, about climate protection and environmental sustainability: from the imposition of air quality standards, to the ban on disposable plastics, from the introduction of targets for 2030 of energy produced from renewable to the limitation of CO2 emissions from cars.

The Monitoring report of the Sustainable Civil Society Dialogue for Sustainable Development project (SCSD-SD), edited by the Italian Kyoto Club association and the Turkish Çevreci Enerji Derneği, presents in its first part a deepen analysis of the EU environmental legislation, taking into consideration six macros areas: protection and air quality, water savings, waste and economy, biodiversity, climate justice, renewables and energy efficiency. The second part illustrates the progress achieved by Turkey in harmonizing its environmental and climate laws with those of the European Union.

Sustainable Civil Society Dialogue for Sustainable Development is a project co-financed by the European Union (EU) within the Civil Society Dialogue – V program, which supports initiatives dedicated to the exchange of knowledge and experiences on topics of interest common to Turkish and EU civil society. Sustainable Civil Society Dialogue for Sustainable Development started on April 1, 2019 and has a duration of 15 months. The partner organizations are Kyoto Club, Rome (Coordination) and Çevreci Enerji Derneği (Environmental Energy Association), Smyrne. The associated partners are the Municipality of Karşıyaka, in Turkey and the Municipality of Bologna, with the Office of Environmental Sustainability.
